Couldn’t believe it… woke up this morning… looked at my iPhone to check my e-mail and saw tons of e-mails from Pay Pal saying “Receipt of payment from iTunes” WTF??? I looked at a few (there were approx. 20 of them,) and each one ranged from $40-$97!! I called mom, she was out in her craft room and had just woken up also and was having her morning coffee before getting me out of bed. She came right in and got me up.
The transactions were made between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST. This was around 11:30 a.m. so didn’t know if any more were going to go through. The first place I called was Pay Pal. The log in attempts did not show any during this time frame, so the Pay Pal account was not accessed directly. I changed the password regardless. She also deleted my iTunes billing agreements. Apparently I had 3 of them (I think one for each computer I use), and the transactions came through one of them.
Someone apparently hacked into my iTunes account. The purchases totaled $1,009!!!! All were movies, games, Apps, albums, songs, ringtones, audio books, etc. I e-mailed iTunes next. Apparently you cannot call someone for the complaint I had, and won’t hear back for 12-24 hours.
My Pay Pal account had money in it for the fundraiser I am doing for Texas Hearing and Service Dogs that is all gone. Then my bank account was the next in line, most of the transactions hit that, then my mom’s debit card was a credit card back up funding source. Four transactions hit that.
Luckily, as of this moment, none of the transactions to my account has shown up. I think this may be because of a delay in processing time when it is taken straight from the bank account. I am hoping that with me deleting those billing agreements that it was done in time that maybe they won’t make it to my bank. My mom had 3 of 4 “pending” in her bank account, but those were through her debit card.
The banks will take care of them, but nothing can be done until they actually clear first. THEN you have to file a dispute. They went ahead and changed mom’s credit card number, and she will file her dispute tomorrow. Hopefully, I won’t have to go that far with mine because there are a LOT! I will get all the money back for the fundraiser… Pay Pal will get the money from iTunes because it was a breach in security on iTunes end, not Pay Pal.
I just can’t believe this happened. Oh, I did also change my password on everything!
